About this site

The High Ground is a civic journalism project rooted in the communities of Eastern Washington. We tell the stories that matter to people living at the intersection of overlooked policy and everyday life: farmers, educators, tribal leaders, students, nurses, immigrants, and neighbors. Our mission is to bring clarity, dignity, and urgency to the challenges and strengths of this region.
We aim to:
- Expose policies that affect real lives but escape national headlines
- Elevate local voices that reflect the diversity and resilience of Eastern Washington
- Inform readers with rigorous, fair, and human-centered reporting
- Inspire action through storytelling that connects individual experience to broader systems
We are not neutral about human dignity. We believe in the right to housing, health care, education, clean water, and fair representation. We challenge misinformation, amplify local solutions, and hold power accountable — not with partisanship, but with purpose.
This is journalism from the ground up. From The High Ground, we see more clearly.
Access for all
The High Ground is free to read, because truth, dignity, and community should never be behind a paywall.
Regional & Grounded
Eastern Washington isn’t a story that breaks. It’s one we live. We cover what matters here, when it matters, and we keep watch long after others move on.
This is only the beginning
Soon, we’ll open more ways for readers, neighbors, and contributors to connect. Until then, every story is an invitation — to care, to act, to stay informed.
